Russia's ESPO oil link extends to Pacific
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-12-25 13:57

With the second section of the East Siberia-Pacific Ocean (ESPO) oil link starting operation Tuesday, the entire 4,739-km-long pipeline extended to the Pacific Ocean.

It runs from Taishet in the Siberian Irkutsk Region to the oil port of Kozmino on the Pacific coast. Its first section, 2,694 km long, went into operation in December 2009, carrying oil from Taishet to Skovorodino in the Far Eastern Amur Region.

The second section, more than 2,000 km long, links Skovorodino with Kozmino. Previously, crude oil had been transported to the port by railway and from there by sea to Asia-Pacific countries.

With the entire ESPO link going into operation, Russia's annual oil exports to the Asia Pacific region will reach 30 million tons next year and 80 million tons in the future.
