Israel's R&D services exports jump 32.9 pct in 2019: report

The exports of Israel's research and development (R&D) services jumped by 32.9 percent in 2019 compared with 2018, according to a report by the Central Bureau of Statistics released on Monday.

The data show that Israeli R&D exports totaled about 9.24 billion U.S. dollars in 2019, compared with about 6.95 billion dollars in 2018.

In contrast to exports of merchandise, exports in services refer to the sale and delivery of intangible products such as transportation, tourism, telecommunications, construction, advertising, computing, accounting and R&D.

Israel's exports of hi-tech industries services excluding start-up companies rose 14.5 percent, from 26.2 billion dollars in 2018 to 30 billion dollars in 2019, according to the report.

Exports of services from start-up companies totaled 3.03 billion dollars, up 30 percent from 2.33 billion dollars in 2018.

The leading type of services exported from Israel in 2019 was computer programming including consultancy and related activities, data processing, hosting related activities and web portals.

The report also shows that Israeli travel services exports rose 4 percent, from 7.25 billion dollars in 2018 to 7.54 billion dollars in 2019, while transportation services exports dropped 0.7 percent, from 4.46 billion dollars to 4.43 billion dollars.

In total, Israeli services exports amounted to 55.39 billion dollars in 2019, up 10.6 percent from 50.06 billion dollars in 2018.
