A leading Chinese film festival closed Saturday night in Changchun, capital of northeast China's Jilin Province and a cradle of the country's film industry.

The six-day Changchun Film Festival was attended by renowned film directors, playwrights, actors and actresses, composers and officials from the Chinese mainland as well as Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao.

The festival's top award, "the best Chinese language film award", was conferred to a 2011 film based on the 1911 revolution led by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, which toppled the Qing Dynasty and led to the founding of the Republic of China.

Chinese film stars Lei Jiayin and Ni Ping won the festival's best actor and actress' awards.

They won the prizes for starring in "Guns and Roses" and "Bright Sunshine" respectively.

Hong Kong film director and producer Johnnie To Kei-fung was honored the best director's award with his 2011 film "Death of a Hostage", also translated as "Life Without Principle."

The best music award went to "Design of Death".

A total of 268 Chinese language films was shown during the festival, 32 of which entered the final round of competition for nine major awards.

Other shortlisted films included "Beginning of the Great Revival", a 2010 movie about the founding of the Communist Party of China, and Sister Peach, a 2012 human interest movie about how a rich man cared for his former babysitter when the woman was old and sick.

China Changchun Film Festival has been held every two years since it was launched in 1992. The latest festival is the 11th such event.
