Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-06-13 09:40

Indonesia commenced an international badminton tournament - Indonesia Open 2012 on Tuesday, offering second largest prize in the world's badminton super series after the Korea Open.

Players from 24 countries and regions are taking part in the Badminton World Federation (BWF)-sanctioned tournament with the absence of injured men's world number one Lee Chong Wei from Malaysia. As the host country, Indonesia has 112 seeded and non-seeded players in the tournament.

The tournament, which will finish on June 17, provides a total of 650,000 U.S. dollars in prize money for the champions, the second largest after the Korea Open that offered 1 million U.S. dollars.

Similar to the previous editions, the Indonesia Open this year is being held in Indonesia's capital landmark indoor stadium of Istora Senayan.

The hosts pin title hopes on Simon Santosa, seeded No. 7 in the men's singles, and Tantowi Ahmad/Lilyana Natsir, who had won the mixed doubles at the All-England championships and the third seeds at this upcoming event.

Chinese players dominated the Indonesia Open last year as they grabbed four gold medals out of five on offer.
