Thailand's consumer confidence up in January
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-02-09 18:03

Thailand's Consumer confidence in the overall economy rose to 64.0 in January, up from 63.1 reported in December 2011, revealed The Economic and Business Forecasting Centre, Bangkok Post online reported on Thursday.

Consumer confidence in job opportunities for the month was 65.4, and 93.1 for future income, according to the centre.

All consumer confidence indices had risen up for two straight months since the flood crisis had ended, said the centre.

Positive factors that boosted consumer confidence were the government's policy to heal flood victims, to rehabilitate flooded provinces and to rebuild the country, the central bank's monetary policy committee decision to cut the key policy rate by 0. 25 percentage points, and the cabinet's approval of a new salary structure for civil servants.

The negative factors included the rising pump prices for fuel, concern about high living costs, the fragile US economy and the debt crisis in Europe.
