Cement production in Poland went up 74.4 percent year-on-year in March to 1.4 million tons, the Polish Cement Association (SPC) reported on Monday.

In the first three months of 2014 cement production grew 53.5 percent year-on-year to 2.53 million tons, according to the SPC.

Cement sales in March grew 100.4 percent year-on-year to 1.38 million tons. In the first three months of 2014 cement sales went up 64.0 percent year-on-year to 2.67 million tons, the SPC said.

Experts said the surge in cement sales indicates growing public and private infrastructural investments, including road, industrial and housing projects.

One of the causes of increased sales is also good weather conditions, a mild winter and warm weather in March, allowing for the continuation of construction work.

"Over the past one-and-a-half years, the construction sector has been in deep crisis. Construction-assembly production kept falling from month to month. After 20 months, February was the first to see a monthly rise of production in the sector," Marcin Peterlik of the Institute for Market Economy Research (IBnGR) told local press.

However, Peterlik added that the real picture of the situation will be reflected in the results of April and May when the sector is not affected by weather conditions.

In 2013 cement production in Poland fell 7.5 percent year-on-year to 14.5 million tons and sales totalled 14.6 million tons, down 7.6 percent from the previous year, according to the SPC.
