The Spanish annual inflation rate stood at 0.1 percent in June, according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) data published on Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

The INE attributed this rate to lower prices of food and non-alcoholic drinks, whose prices fell by 1.5 percent in June year-on-year.

Prices of items related to housing increased by 2.1 percent in June when compared with a year earlier, although the rate was 0.6 percent lower than the annual rate of May because of lower prices of electricity, the INE said.

The INE also reported that prices of other goods and services increased by 1.2 percent, including prices of car insurances, while prices of transport increased by 1.1 percent because of higher prices of fuel and lubricants.

Meanwhile, Spain's prices registered no variation on a month-to-month basis.

Spanish State Secretary for Economy Fernando Jimenez Latorre said that the annual inflation rate was a positive data as it helped to wage moderation and competiveness of experts.
