Singapore's Q2 jobless rate steady at 2 pct
The jobless rate of Singapore remained steady at 2 percent in the second quarter, the Ministry of Manpower said on Thursday.
The seasonally-adjusted unemployment rates for citizens stayed constant at 3 percent, while resident unemployment rate improved slightly from 2.9 percent to 2.8 percent over the same period.
The number of jobs created dropped to 22,000 in the second quarter from 28,300 in the first quarter. It was also lower than the employment growth of 33,700 jobs in the second quarter of 2013.
The labor market of Singapore had remained tight in recent years as authorities tightened immigration and foreign labor policies since around the last general elections in 2011, when immigration policy became one of the most discussed issues.
