Chengdu targets $50b in trade this year

China's western city of Chengdu set a trade target of $50 billion in 2013 after foreign trade rose 25.41 percent year-on-year to $47.54 billion in 2012, the municipal government said on Thursday.

Chengdu's exports in 2012 increased 32.26 percent year-on-year to $30.36 billion, about 79 percent of the total exports of Sichuan province. The city's imports grew 14.9 percent year-on-year to $17.18 billion in 2012, accounting for 83 percent of the province's imports.

The trade surplus of Chengdu was $13.18 billion in 2012, an increase of $5.177 billion from a year earlier.

Integrated circuits, microelectronic components, minerals, aviation equipment and parts, and automobiles and parts were the major imports of the city in 2012.
