The Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region will raise its import quota of crude oil and natural gas , encourage companies to participate in overseas energy exploration and increase local downstream projects in the resource sector, in order to build the area into the country's onshore energy base.

The local government will accelerate the construction of the second phase of the China-Kazakhstan oil pipeline and gradually increase its crude oil import scale, according to a plan drafted by the local government, as reported by China Securities Journal on Monday.

By the end of 2015, the region will have an annual energy delivery capacity of 50 million metric tons of crude oil, 100 billion cubic meters of gas and 30 million kilowatts of power, the report said.

Xinjiang will also accelerate the construction of the 14th large-scale coal production base in the area.
