Carrefour to expand
French retailer Carrefour reaffirmed on Monday its commitment to the Chinese mainland market and promised more shop openings in the near future.
Carrefour plans to operate stores in 100 cities after a two-year expansion, up from its current 75, said Thierry Garnier, Carrefour China CEO, at a press conference held in Beijing Monday. Garnier said the company opened 20 new hypermarkets on the mainland in 2013.
Carrefour will also devote more effort to introducing more imported French food to the Chinese market, said Garnier.
The company co-organized the Sino-French seminar on food quality on Monday to help improve industry standards.
