China's railway authorities planned to add 218 more trains on Sunday to guarantee travelers reached their destinations during the Spring Festival, a traditional holiday for family reunions.

Authorities expect 5.7 million trips to be made on Sunday, which will be a travel peak since Friday, the first day of the seven-day holiday.

Since Jan. 16 -- the start of this year's "chunyun", or passenger transportation during the Spring Festival -- some 102.3 million journeys had been made by Saturday, up 12.9 million trips or 14.4 percent year on year.

The railway authorities reminded passengers that tickets for temporary train services up until Feb. 24 and routine train tickets up until Feb. 21 went on sale on Sunday. Tickets can be bought through the Internet, telephone, vending machines, agencies and at counters of railway stations.
