China, Laos vow to jointly combat corruption

Visiting senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) He Guoqiang vowed here on Sunday to boost exchanges and cooperation with Laos in the area of anti- corruption.

He, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau and the head of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, made the remarks while holding talks with his Lao counterpart Bounthong Chitmany, president of the Central Control Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party.

He said the major objective of his visit to the Laos was to further implement the important consensus reached between the two heads of state and promote the relations between the two nations, two peoples and two parties.

"The CPC and the Chinese government highly value Sino-Lao relations," He said, vowing to make continuous efforts to push forward their bilateral all-around strategic cooperative partnership to a higher level.

In regards to China's anti-graft efforts, He said China attaches great importance to anti-corruption work, and has established a national anti-corruption strategy by setting up and perfecting a system of punishment and prevention of corruption to comprehensively promote this undertaking.

The country has adopted the principles of addressing both the symptoms and root causes of corruption, enforcing comprehensive treatment, and putting simultaneous stress on punishment and prevention while giving priority to prevention, he added.

"The Chinese discipline inspection organs would like to enhance exchanges and cooperation with their Lao counterparts, share governance experience and boost bilateral all-around strategic cooperative partnership to a new level," He said.

In response, Bounthong spoke highly of He's visit, calling it another important visit made by Chinese leaders aiming at boosting the traditional friendship between the two sides.

Bounthong also expressed his sincere gratitude for China's long- term support and assistance to Laos' national development, vowing to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese discipline departments.

Later on Sunday, He also met with Lao Vice President Bounnhang Vorachit on ties and bilateral cooperation.

At the invitation of Lao People's Revolutionary Party, He arrived in Vientiane on Sunday for a three-day official visit. The Laos is the first leg of He Guoqiang's four-nation tour which will also bring him to Cambodia, Malaysia and Russia.
