The disciplinary arm of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has called for persistent efforts to fight the "four forms of decadence": formalism, bureaucracy, hedonism and extravagance.

"The four forms of decadence have been brewing for a long time and the mission to rectify them is a long-term and arduous one," said a statement made public Wednesday after a meeting of the standing committee of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI).

Disciplinary departments are urged to strengthen supervision and enforcement of discipline, alerting the entire Party by exposing and punishing typical violations.

"Disciplinary departments are failing in their duty if they cannot ensure discipline and pursue wrongdoers," the statement said.

The campaign should have a special focus on major festivals when gift-giving and luxurious banquets paid for with public funds are more likely.

The meeting was presided over by Wang Qishan, secretary of the CCDI.
