Agricultural disaster prevention and relief tops the agenda of a meeting on food security between China, ASEAN countries, Japan and ROK on Wednesday.

The fifth ASEAN Plus Three Strategic Conference on Food Security, which is held in Harbin, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, has brought together 13 countries with a combined population of nearly 2 billion that has seen repeated natural disasters wreaking havoc on agricultural production.

Officials and experts from the 13 countries, the ASEAN Secretariat, Asian Development Bank, Food and Agriculture Organization and World Food Program of the United Nations, exchanged experience on disaster relief work.

They also discussed issues such as agricultural insurance and the effects of global warming on agriculture, and vowed for closer regional cooperation and more information sharing.

The annual meeting aims at strengthening regional cooperation on stainable agricultural development and food security.
