Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has attended the 16th Leadership Meeting between ASEAN and China, Japan and South Korea in Brunei. At the meeting, Li pointed out that the ASEAN plus three framework has achieved a lot despite regional and international changes. He also called the framework a main stage and means for East Asia cooperation.

The Chinese Premier has given four suggestions on further development of the ASEAN plus three framework.

Li Keqiang called on the countries in East Asia to properly handle the regional hot-spot issues, seize the chance of cooperation and maintain the peace and stability in the region.

He urged the countries to promote economic integration by completing the negotiations on establishing an all-round economic partnership by 2015.

He also suggested building networks to safeguard financial security and to maintain the stability of the Asian currency system. He called for more efforts to promote financial coordination and cooperation.

Premier Li also stressed the importance of deepening cooperation in areas including food security and culture.

According to the Premier, the cooperation under the ASEAN plus three framework has been deepening over the past 16 years, and has played a positive role in the prosperity and stability of Asia.

He called on the countries to prioritise economic development and the improvement of people’s livelihood.

Premier Li said that China is willing to work with other Asian countries to set up their think tanks, and promote understanding between each other.

The leaders from other participating countries said the peaceful and friendly cooperation is the basis for the stability in the region. They added that the ASEAN plus three framework should continue playing a vital role in the region by expanding financing channels and improving infrastructure in order to promote regional economic growth.
