Chinese top legislator Zhang Dejiang said here Friday that a stable healthy relationship between China and Senegal conforms with the fundamental interests of both countries and their people.

Zhang, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) of China, met with visiting Senegalese President Macky Sall in the Great Hall of the People on Friday afternoon.

Zhang made positive comments on the achievements in growth of bilateral links since the two countries resumed official relations in 2005.

Zhang said the healthy and stable growth of bilateral ties also fits into the trend of development in China-Africa relations.

He said the important consensus reached by Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Sall during their talks Thursday has laid out a blueprint for future growth of bilateral relations. He said the two countries share a bright and broad prospect of cooperation.

Zhang said the Chinese NPC is ready to work with the National Assembly of Senegal to push for the development of a long-term friendly cooperative partnership between the two countries. He hopes that the legislatures of the two countries should congregate friendly forces for bilateral cooperation, carry out cooperation in the areas of politics, trade and culture and provide powerful legal backup for long-term, healthy and stable growth of bilateral relations.

Sall said the NPC plays an important role in China's political life. He expressed the belief that with the support of their legislatures, the two countries will see faster and healthier growth in the future.

Sall arrived in Beijing for a four-day state visit on Wednesday at the invitation of President Xi. He also met with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Friday.
