China's top legislator Zhang Dejiang held talks with visiting President Henrique Eduardo Alves of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies here on Monday, and both agreed to develop stronger parliamentary exchanges.

The Chinese National People's Congress (NPC) attaches great importance to its relations with the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies, said Zhang, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee.

Zhang proposed to enhance exchanges between the two countries' parliaments at various levels.

He suggested both sides share governance experience regarding economic development, improving people's livelihood and maintaining social stability.

Zhang called on both sides to implement their cooperation agreements and offer a more stable, transparent and fair policy and legislative environment for bilateral trade cooperation.

He also urged to cement strategic coordination on major issues such as global governance and climate change, to promote a more just and equitable international order.

Applauding Zhang's proposals, Alves said it is a consensus of the Brazilian government, parliament and various political parties to further enhance friendship with China.

The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies hopes to beef up exchanges with the NPC between their leaders, special committees and friendly groups, and strengthen coordination in international and regional parliamentary organizations, he said.

Zhang hailed the achievements of China-Brazil cooperation since the forging of diplomatic ties 40 years ago, citing fruitful cooperation in areas of energy, mining, finance, agriculture and power.

Zhang urged joint efforts to deepen strategic trust and cooperation, to push forward the China-Brazil all-round strategic partnership to a new stage.

Invited by Zhang, Alves is in China for a week-long visit from April 13-20.
