Top Chinese leaders on Monday continued their panel discussions with lawmakers during the ongoing annual session of the National People's Congress (NPC), the top legislature.

In a panel discussion with deputies from southern province of Hainan, Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang said the province must be fully aware of the extreme importance of ecological environment, and work hard to prevent pollution from damaging the environment of Hainan.

Zhang said protecting the ecological environment must be guaranteed by laws and regulation, while the environmental protection law enforcement activities should be strengthened for more effective supervision.

He hoped Hainan, China's southernmost province known for its seaside resort and tropical landscape, to well protect the ecological environment to build it into a beautiful island.
