Cambodia's Senate President Samdech Say Chhum has spoken highly of the achievements made by the Communist Party of China (CPC) in an interview with Xinhua conducted in the run-up to the 95th anniversary of the founding of the CPC.

China will celebrate the CPC anniversary on July 1.

Say Chhum said that under the CPC leadership, China has overcome numerous difficulties in protecting, building and developing the country, and the progress of the Chinese economy has provided new opportunities for socio-economic development in neighboring countries as well as in the region and the world.

Say Chhum, who is also a vice president of the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP), said the CPC has struggled tirelessly to resolve various kinds of difficult problems, spanning internal and external issues, with patience, endurance and wisdom, and has subsequently achieved ongoing and enduring successes.

"The great force of solidarity among the Chinese people under the leadership of the CPC, which has the right policy guidance and strategies, has propelled deep reforms in line with Chinese characteristics," the senate president said.

"The deep reforms have made China progress rapidly in all fields and become the world's second largest economy. Moreover, Chinese people's livelihoods have been consistently improved," he added.

The senate president pointed out that Cambodia is firmly confident that under the CPC leadership, China will succeed in implementing its 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020).

Speaking of the increasingly important role China is playing on the world stage, Say Chhum said, "I highly value the role of the People's Republic of China, which is a core force in keeping peace, stability and development in East Asia," adding that China also supports ASEAN actively in its role of protecting stability in the region.

Sharing his view on the ties between the CPC and the CPP, the senate president said both parties have acted as solid and effective core forces in pushing the governments of the two countries to enhance cooperation in various fields.

"Our two parties have regarded each other as old friends, good friends, good neighbors, good brothers, and good partners," he said.

He noted that the two parties have frequently exchanged all levels of visits, especially among youth, to foster the relations and ongoing cooperation.
