Tunisian court postpones hearing of ex-Libyan PM to Feb. 14
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-01-11 01:52

The trial of Libya's former prime minister, Baghdadi Mahmoudi, was postponed to Feb. 14 by the Tozeur appeals court, the official TAP press agency reported on Tuesday. The decision was taken at the request of the defense.

Mahmoudi, who faces the charge of illegally entering the country, is also wanted by Libyan authorities who issued an extradition request against him.

In November a Tunis appeals court accepted the extradition request. The final decision for his extradition now depends on Tunisia's new government.

During his visit to Libya earlier this month, the country's new president, Moncef Marzouki declared that Tunisia would not extradite the former Libyan official unless the conditions for a fair trial in Libya were met.

Recently, Tunisian and international rights groups have called on Tunisian authorities not to extradite the 70-year-old Mahmoudi, given that the conditions for a fair trial did not exist in Libya.
