Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-03-06 19:22

The government of the Republic of Congo on Tuesday lifted the death toll to 180 from 146,two days after a series of explosions hit the Central African country's capital Brazzaville.

The arms depot-induced blasts have left at least 180 people dead and 1,340 others injured, according to Congolese Health Minister Georges Moyen.

The death toll could be higher with more bodies of victims to be found, some from under debris, and more information to be released by hospitals, where hundreds of the injured are being taken care of.

An electrical short circuit caused the blasts on Sunday morning, the government said in its initial report, putting the official toll at 146 amid widespread reports of 206.
