Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-05-29 15:34

About 50 people have been arrested in connection with attack on Mali's interim President Dioncounda Traore, a statement published by the Malian government on Monday has shown.

The statement which indicated that investigations are still ongoing, noted that some people among those who were arrested have been taken to court.

However, the government did not reveal the political affiliation of the people who were arrested although some sources familiar with the case have revealed that those arrested were "members" of the Coordination of Mali's Patriotic Organizations (COPAM) which supports the military junta.

On Friday, the COPAM leaders like Oumar Mariko, Gakou and Younouss Hameye Dicko spend some hours at the police station to facilitate the ongoing investigations.

The government has promised to leave no stone unturned over the "disgraceful and humiliating" attack that occurred on May 21.

President Traore was evacuated to France on May 23 for medical examination whose first results were termed as satisfactory and reassuring.

He is expected to attend his final medical check-up on Tuesday at Val de Grace hospital in Paris and the results of this medical check-up will determine the date for his return to Mali.
