Malians urged to protect environment through agricultural development
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-06-06 17:59
Mali's Environment Minister Alfa Bocar Nafo on Tuesday urged his fellow Malians to massively invest in the most vulnerable sectors through better management of the soil, water resources and allowing farmers to have access to quality seeds as well as to climatic information.

The declaration was made through a message to the nation to mark the World Environment Day. The 2012 edition was marked under the theme "Green economy: Does it include you?"

According to Nafo, a green economy helps to improve the wellbeing of human-beings by significantly reducing environmental risks and shortage of resources.

He said that the green economy also helps to reduce emission of harmful gases to the atmosphere, leading to sustainable management of natural resources and ensuring inclusive participation of all actors.

The minister noted that the last parameter was the most important, "because there's need for everyone to play their role in the achievement of development objectives."
