Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-06-22 06:13

Egypt's presidential candidate Ahmed Shafiq on Thursday announced victory in the presidential elections according to his campain's counting of the balloting stations, local TV reported on Thursday.

In a televised press conference Shafiq said the Higher Presidential Elections Commission is the only official body that has the rights to announce the final results and he will respect its decision.

"As a presidential candidate and based on the counting process by my campaign, I got the biggest voting numbers, and I am confident that I will be the legitimate president of Egypt," said Shafiq.

"The time is coming for issuing the final results, which will be the same as my campaign has found," said Shafiq, adding that the revenge and ousting tones should be vanished for the sake of national interest. Egypt held the run-off of the presidential election on Saturday and Sunday with the two candidates both claiming their victory.

The ruling military council affirmed that they will transfer power to the new elected president before the end of June.
