Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-07-26 15:17

Egypt announced on Wednesday the discovery of an oldest wooden boat dating back to the era of King Den of the First Dynasty (about 3,000 years B.C.).

The boat was unveiled in good condition in a cemetery in Abu Rawash archaeological area in Giza, said Minister of Antiquities Mohamed Ibrahim Ali.

A team of experts unearthed the remnants of a wooden boat, with 11 wooden boards, each six meters long and half a meter wide, the official MENA news agency reported.

The minister said the boat was carried to a laboratory in the Grand Egyptian Museum Center for Restoring Monuments before display.

This boat is believed to be a funeral boat which was buried near the tomb of a dead body, so that he could used it in the other world according to people's beliefs at that time, experts said.
