Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-09-12 17:36
Mali's Foreign Minister Tieman Coulibaly arrived in the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott on Tuesday night for a two-day mission after Mauritanian nationals were killed at a security post in central Mali.

The government said the Malian minister is scheduled to hold talks with Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz over the issue.

According to a diplomatic source, Mali's chief diplomat on Monday visited the Mauritanian Embassy in the Malian capital Bamako to deliver the government's condolences.

In Sunday's incident, Mauritanian Islamic preachers were reportedly shot dead by Malian soldiers at Diabaly security check- point in Segou region.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Mauritanian government said it firmly condemned the "massacre," demanding an immediate probe to ascertain the conditions under which the Mauritanian nationals were killed.

The victims were members of "Dawa Wa Tabligh", an apolitical and pacifist Muslim brotherhood and they were heading for Bamako.

A military mission of Mauritania went to Mali to repatriate the bodies of the victims.

The Malian government announced on Sunday that the incident left 16 people dead, including eight Malians and eight Mauritanians.
