Egyptian court sets to rule on constituent assembly dissolution on Oct. 23
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-10-17 07:40

Egypt's Administrative Court decided Tuesday to rule on the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly on Oct. 23, official news agency MENA reported.

The court on Tuesday postponed for the third time to rule on whether to annul the assembly, which is tasked with drafting a new constitution for the country after last year's political upheaval.

Several lawyers and rights centers have filed lawsuits for dismantling the body, saying that the assembly includes members of the parliament, which is forbidden according to the rules of its formation.

Egypt had its first constituent assembly formed in March, but it was later dissolved by the court. The current one started its work on June 12.

The drafting commission of the Constituent Assembly finished the first draft of the new constitution last week. MENA said Tuesday in another report that the final draft of the constitution will be voted on in the second week of November before being put up for a public referendum.
