Libyan Deputy Foreign Minister Abdulrzaq Ghraidi met Wednesday with a delegation of the Stolen Asset Recovery initiative (StAR) to discuss ways of retrieving Libyan assets smuggled abroad.
During the talks, the StAR, a World Bank and the UN Office on Drugs and Crimes partnership, assured Libya of its assistance in tracking down Libya's stolen assets and bank accounts in foreign banks, Foreign Ministry spokesman Badruddin al-ghylushi told Xinhua.
The StAR's mandate are supporting international efforts to end safe havens for corrupt funds, and working with developing countries and financial centers to prevent the laundering of the proceeds of corruption and to facilitate more systematic and timely return of stolen assets.
Libya, which underwent political upheaval in 2011, is still plagued by instability and violence due to widespread illicit possession of arms and loose state control.
