Tanzanian Parliament sends condolences to South African House

The Tanzanian Parliament on Saturday sent a condolence message to the South African Parliament following the death of Nelson Mandela, a freedom fighter, anti-apartheid campaigner and the former president of South Africa.

Reading the Parliament declaration on the death of Mandela, Edward Lowasa, chairman of the Committee for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, said the parliament as institution sent condolences to the South African Parliament on the demise of the African hero.

In the declaration, Lowasa said despite the fact that Mandela died, his good deeds will continue to flourish for many years to come.

Speaker Anne Makinda pledged to submit the declaration to the South African Parliament.

"The Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania declared to join hands with the family and people of South Africa for the death of Nelson Mandela. Mandela has did died, but he will continue to live in our hearts for many years to come," said Lowasa, the MP for Monduli.

"We'll continue to honor by following his path of being a true patriotic leader who proved to the world on importance of respecting humanity and rights, equal rights and who fought for apartheid," he added.

The former Tanzanian Prime Minister said the Tanzanian Parliament and the world at large received the death of Mandela with somber moods and from this death

Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete's announcement of three days of mourning "shows that Tanzania is a true friend of South Africa as all of us we took part in the fight against anti-apartheid and freedom of all countries in Africa," Lowasa said.

He said Mandela sacrificed his life in the fight for African liberation and apartheid done by few Europeans in South Africa, the situation that ended him in jail in the Roben island, 1964.

Mandela was the first black president to lead South Africa in 1994, four years after being released from prison.
