The Gambian President Adama Barrow presided on Monday over the swearing in of eleven commissioners to fill the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) which is set up to investigate the human rights atrocities perpetrated under the former regime of Yahya Jammeh.
President Barrow said the commission has given the Gambians a historic opportunity to heal following decades of repressive rule.
"The TRRC serves as an opportunity of a rebirth and healing to the nation and to the victims. It provides an opportunity to establish the truth with regards to what they went through." said Barrow.
Chief Prosecutor of International Criminal Court (ICC) Fatou Bon Bensouda has said they will follow the Commission's progress with "keen interest".
