Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-02-02 13:15

An Amtrak passenger train derailed in Michigan, central U.S. Wednesday morning after colliding with a tractor-trailer truck at a highway crossing, though no life- threatening injuries were reported.

According to Amtrak, Chicago-bound "Wolverine Service" Train 351 originating out of Pontiac, Michigan made contact with a heavy vehicle in its path at the Portage Road crossing outside Jackson, southern Michigan.

The collision caused the train engine to leave its tracks and ultimately come to rest on its side, with the first two cars also derailing.

A total of 71 passengers and 5 crew members were on board the train. Although Amtrak said several people were taken to a nearby hospital for examination, no serious injuries were reported.

Due to the incident, said Amtrak, alternate transportation will be provided to passengers traveling between Ann Arbor and Jackson, and that paid passengers wishing to change plans can receive fare refunds.
