The United States on Tuesday targeted a Libyan man for sanctions for his links to Saadi Gaddafi, a son of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

The Department of Treasury blacklisted Humayd Abd-al-Salam for his support to Saadi, saying both the U.S. and the United Nations imposed sanctions on Saadi in March 2011.

The agency said Humayd, 46, reportedly coordinated a meeting for Saadi in late September 2011, during the popular revolt seeking to overthrow the Gaddafi regime, and after the imposition of U.S. and UN sanctions against Gaddafi and his sons -- Saadi and Mutassim.

In early October, Humayd reportedly coordinated the delivery of vehicles and drivers to Saadi and Mutassim, and was instructed by Mutassim to arrange payment for a shipment of military equipment, including sniper rifles and night vision devices, the agency said.

"Today's designation targets a key supporter of Saadi Gaddafi, who remains determined to carry on his father's legacy, to reverse Libya's democratic transition through violence, and to foster instability in the region," said Adam Szubin, director of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control.

"The United States of America is determined to assist the Libyan people as they work to develop a democratic, peaceful, and prosperous society, and will expose those who are trying to derail Libya's transition," he said in a statement.

As a result, U.S. persons are barred from doing business with Humayd, and his assets under U.S. jurisdiction are frozen.
