U.S. stocks opened mixed on Tuesday ahead of the policy and economic data from the European Central Bank (ECB).
ECB President Mario Draghi is supposed to give more details about the new round of bond purchasing plans aimed at lowering Spain's and Italy's borrowing costs.
The European situation is now the top concern of investors. Most investors believe that ECB will do more in the near future to tackle the region's drama.
On the economic front, the purchasing manager's index for August from the Institute of Supply Management will be released in the morning. The index is expected to be 50.
Shortly after the opening bell, the Dow Jones industrial average lost 16.03 points, or 0.12 percent, to 13,074.81. The Standard & Poor's 500 was down 0.81 point, or 0.06 percent, to 1,405.84. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 0.49 point, or 0.02 percent, to 3,067.65. |
