The Harvard University Police Department is investigating reports of explosives at four sites on campus, the university said on its website Monday.

Police received an "unconfirmed report" that explosives may have been placed in four buildings on campus earlier in the morning -- the Science Center, Thayer, Sever and Emerson Halls.

The university has ordered the evacuation of the four buildings, while Harvard University Police and Cambridge Police are on the scene for investigation.

Harvard University is one of the best-known institutions of higher learning in the United States and around the world. It is situated in Cambridge, Massachusetts, just outside of Boston.
