Japanese PM's support rating falls

Public support rate for Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda's cabinet fell to 29 percent, down 6. 8 percentage points from last month, according to a monthly weekend poll by Kyodo News on Sunday.

The poll also showed that 51 percent of people oppose the government's plan to raise the sales tax, while 48.3 percent back the plan.

The government aims to raise the country's sales tax rate from the current 5 percent to 8 percent in April 2014 and to 10 percent in October 2015. The cabinet has been calling for the opposition party's cooperation for the passage of the legislation in the divided Diet where the ruling party lacks a majority in the upper house.
