India sends special envoy to Norway over child custody row
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-02-27 16:46

India has sent a special envoy to Norway to meet Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Store over the custody row of two children of a non-resident Indian family based there, highly placed sources said Monday.

"Special envoy Madhusudhan Ganapathi, a top ranking diplomat, has been sent to Norway. He will meet Norwegian Foreign Minister and convey India's concerns in the custody row of one-year-old Aishwarya and three-year-old Abhigyan," the sources said.

India has been of late exerting pressure on Norway to find an amicable solution to the custody row of the two children who were taken away by the Scandanavian country's child welfare officials in May last year and placed in foster care, after accusing their parents of negligence.

"We will make all out efforts to achieve the goal of getting back the children to India where they belong," Indian External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna had said recently.
