Thailand's Criminal Court on Tuesday sentenced Sondhi Limthongkul, a leader of protests that ousted two Thai governments, to 20 years in jail for faking documents to secure loans for his company.
Sondhi, a 64-year-old media mogul and a leader of the yellow shirt movement, was found guilty of forging documents to allow Manager Media Group, where he is a board member, to seek loans of 1.07 billion baht (33 million U.S. dollars) from Krung Thai Bank during 1996 and 1997.
Suwat Apaiphak, a lawyer for Sondhi, told reporters that they were planning to appeal the verdict. Sondhi was freed on bail after posting a 10 million-baht bond, Suwat said. |
