Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-03-01 13:37

At least 10 people in Rueso district of Thailand's southernmost province of Narathiwat were wounded after two teenagers wearing student uniform hurled a hand grenade at the crowd on sidewalk early Thursday morning, local media INN reported.

According to the police, two young men wearing Islamic school uniform rode a motorcycle to the downtown Rueso district where a large number of people were busily buying foods by the road side before a man on a pillion hurled a hand grenade at the crowd.

At least 10 people including six women, three men and a three- year-old boy were hurt in the assault. Among these two were severely injured.

The four southernmost provinces of Narathiwat, Pattani, Satun and Yala are the only majority Muslim provinces in predominantly Buddhist Thailand. The region has seen escalating violence since January 2004 that has already claimed more than 5,200 lives.
