South Korean fishing boat sinks off southern Japan, 2 missing

A fishing boat of South Korea sank in waters off southern Japan Tuesday morning, leaving two crew members missing, Japanese maritime authorities said.

A fire broke out on the 29-ton catcher, 2006 NAM SEONG, at around 03:20 a.m. local time. The Japanese Coast Guard dispatched several patrol vessels to search for the boat after receiving a request for rescue operation from the South Korean side.

The Japanese Coast Guard said that two (South) Korean sailors went missing while five (South) Korean and three Vietnamese sailors were recurred by other fishing boats nearby before the ship sank at around 11:50 a.m. local time in waters about 250 km off shore of Minamisatsuma City of Kagoshima Prefecture.
