6.9 magnitude quake hits Japan: CENC

An earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale jolted off the east coast of Honshu, Japan at 5:08 p.m. Beijing Time Friday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The epicenter, with a depth of 20 km, was initially determined to be at 40.9 degrees north latitude and 144.9 degrees east longitude.
