Japan calls for UN action over DPRK rocket
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-04-05 07:15

Japan is calling for actions from the UN Security Council against Democratic People's Republic of Korea's (DPRK) plan to launch what Japan believes a long-range rocket this month, Japanese Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba said on Wednesday.

"I am certain that the launch would be a clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions," local media citing Gemba as saying, adding that Gemba believes "some response will be needed" by the international organization.

Gemba also said that Japan is considering many things including how the event should be dealt by the Security Council, if the launch does happen.

But the foreign minister also said it is still imperative now to persuade DPRK to give up its rocket launch plan in mid-April.
