S. Korean police vow to fight against bullying
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-04-23 21:47

South Korean police on Monday pledged active support to educational authorities in tackling school violence after school bullying claimed another young victim in the country this month.

The National Police Agency (NPA) vowed closer cooperation with schools across the country to combat school violence.

The NPA will focus on dissolving school gangs while raising the current number of police officers tasked with handling school violence from 306 to 514.

The move came after a middle school student in Yeongju, North Gyeongsang Province committed suicide on April 16 due to chronic bullying from classmates.

The South Korean government came up with a set of measures in February to address increasing public concern over rampant school violence following a series of teenager suicides due to bullying.
