S. Korean FM to visit Thailand, Myanmar next week

South Korean foreign minister Kim Sung-hwan will visit Thailand and Myanmar next week to discuss expanding bilateral ties and regional issues, the ministry here said Thursday.

During his two-day Thailand tour starting April 30, Kim is scheduled to meet with his counterpart Surapong Tovichakchaikul to discuss expanding cooperation on energy, resources and infrastructure building.

They will also discuss regional affairs, bilateral defense industry cooperation and cultural exchanges, according to the ministry.

Before leaving for Myanmar on May 1 for a two-day tour, Kim is also scheduled to meet with Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

In Myanmar, Kim will hold talks with his counterpart Wunna Maung Lwin over economic and economic cooperation and personnel exchanges between the two countries.

During the trip, the first by South Korea's top diplomat since 1985, Kim will also sit down with Myanmar President Thein Sein, according to the ministry.
