Japan's police authorities on Tuesday arrested the driver of a tour bus for a deadly accident that killed seven passengers and injured 38 others.
The 43-year-old Kazan Kono was arrested on charges of negligent driving leading to death and injury. The tour bus that Kono drove crashed into a 3-meter-high roadside wall around 5 a.m. local time in Gunma Prefecture on Sunday. The bus was headed for Tokyo Disneyland on the second day of the 9-day Japanese Golden Week.
The driver was also seriously injured and hospitalized in the accident. Kono said he was dozing off when the accident occurred due to fatigue and has admitted to the charges, according to local media report.
Local police searched the office of the bus operator in Chiba prefecture to see whether the fatal accident was caused by overwork on Monday.
Local media reported that there was no backup driver in the overnight bus. |
