Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-05-09 15:41
Japan's ruling Democratic Party heavyweight Ichiro Ozawa's political funds case will go to the Tokyo higher court said the lawyers serving the prosecutors on Wednesday.

Tokyo District Court found Ozawa was not guilty on April 26, but the three court-appointed lawyers said that there were something wrong with the not-guilty verdict and they have a chance of convincing the higher court to overturn Ozawa's acquittal, reported by the local media.

Ozawa needs not to appear before the court of second instance but the continuing criminal trial may affect his political ambitions.

Ozawa, the 69- year-old political heavyweight, and his cohorts fierce opposed Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda's tax-hike plan.

Ozawa was indicted on Jan. 31 over false political fund reporting which was handled by his political fund management body concerning a land deal in Tokyo.
