A trainer aircraft of the Philippine Air Force on a test flight crashed along north Philippine waters Friday morning, with two of its passengers reported missing, according to officials.
Air Force Spokesman Lt. Col. Miguel Ernesto Okol said that one of its SF260 TP Warrior planes, with number 716, crashed in an area near Mariveles town in Bataan province.
The plane left around 6:52 a.m. local time from Sangley Point in Cavite for a test flight to Corregidor. The plane was earlier reported missing.
Okol said the Air Force alerted search and rescue teams when the plane failed to return on time.
"It was overdue so we alerted our search and rescue teams and thereafter dispatched them," Okol said.
A fisherman who witnessed the crash reported the incident to the authorities. Air Force and Navy personnel were able to recover debris of the aircraft at Mariveles. They're still searching for the missing pilot and co-pilot. |
