Indian police rescue 35 women from human traffickers |

Indian police have busted a human trafficking racket and rescued at least 35 women, including some minors, from a brothel in Meerut town in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, an official said Wednesday.
"Acting on a tip-off, police raided the place and rescued the victims who were trafficked into the city from the northern Indian state of Rajasthan and the neighboring country of Nepal. We had information about these women being illegally brought in. Our mission to rescue these victims will continue," Sudhir Singh, Superintendent of Meerut police, told media.
He also said that they have arrested an alleged kingpin of the racket and the victims have been sent to a local women shelter.
Human trafficking is existent in India and a large number of women from remote villages and neighboring Nepal become victims. |
