Indian Home Minister P Chidambaram reviewed security scenario of Indian- controlled Kashmir during a high-level meeting with region's Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, officials said Thursday.
The meeting was held Wednesday evening in Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
"The minister reviewed the prevailing law and order and security situation of the region at a high level meeting here," said a government spokesman in Srinagar. "Various issues relating to the subject were discussed in detail in the meeting."
The meeting was also attended by region's Deputy Chief Minister, junior Minister for Home Affairs, region's Chief Secretary, Director General of Police besides region's top bureaucrats and senior officers.
Chidambaram arrived in the region Wednesday to attend a function in Kargil of Ladakh division. He said New Delhi would take all necessary steps to accommodate development needs of Indian-controlled Kashmir, including twin districts of Leh and Kargil of Ladakh region.
Indian police and paramilitary troopers stationed in Indian- controlled Kashmir had beefed up security in view of this high- profile visit across the region.
A guerrilla war is going on between militants and the Indian troops stationed in the region since 1989. Separatists are demanding end of New Delhi's rule in the region. |
