Thailand offers assistance for flood relief in Japan

The Thai government provided Japan financial assistance of 5 million baht, or about 160,000 U.S. Dollars to help address recent flooding disasters in the country's southwestern island of Kyushu.

Thai Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul presented the funds to Takashi Okada, Political Affairs Minister of the Japanese Embassy to Thailand, and sent condolences on behalf of the government and people of Thailand.

Takashi noted that Thailand was the first nation assisting Japan for the matter.Kyushu's four prefectures, Fukuoka, Kumamoto, Oita, and Saga, were hit by torrential downpours brought by Tropical Storm Khanun in mid-July. Dozens of people were killed by landslides and floods triggered by the rain and hundreds of thousands were ordered to evacuate from their homes.
